What is Telehealth?

Essentially, telehealth is using technology to provide healthcare services to persons who need it where physical consultations are not possible. It allows services to be accessed remotely, without being in the same physical space as your healthcare provider. Telehealth is not new - we have been providing telehealth services to many persons since our inception.

Telehealth (also known as telecounselling or teletherapy) can take place over telephone or video. We use a secure video conferencing platform that allows us to virtually meet with you; a lot like in a usual physical therapy setting. However, if for any reason you’re uncomfortable with a video call, you can always turn off the camera and proceed with an audio-only session. Although telehealth cannot fully replace physical psychotherapy, it is a useful tool in certain situations to provide temporary care until such time physical psychotherapy is possible.

Can I use Telehealth?

Yes, everyone can! Here are some things you need to take note before accessing telehealth:

Ψ A comfortable and private space for you to talk about the issues that most concern you.
Ψ For a good experience, your device must meet the following requirements*:

  1. An up-to-date browser like Chrome or Firefox

  2. A stable internet connection

During your very first telehealth session, our clinicians will give you suggestions to improve the quality of the telehealth call. Any time spent troubleshooting technical or connection difficulties during any session will not count towards your session time.


How do I prepare for a Telehealth session?

It’s completely normal to feel slightly awkward or not know what to expect for your first session. Here are some tips that can help you prepare for your first telehealth session:

Ψ Grab a good pair of earphones and find a comfortable spot in your house where you’ll have privacy, is as distraction-free as possible and a stable internet connection.

Ψ Prepare things you would usually have with you when attending a therapy or counselling session such as a pillow, a drink, tissues or a notepad etc.

Ψ To get into the right head space, you may even want to dress up in the clothes you would usually wear to a therapy or counselling session.

Telehealth will take some getting used, especially if you have not experienced this before. But regardless of who or where you are located, telehealth allows you to access to support when you need it the most.


How do I commence a Telehealth session?

Once a call-back session has been arranged, we will tell you which of our virtual rooms to call into. Please note that for telehealth sessions, we will assign the next available clinician to you based on your listed concerns.
