Jeanette @ AKIDS
Jeanette is a Clinical Psychologist with a Master of Psychology (Clinical), jointly awarded by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of Melbourne. She is a registered psychologist and approved supervisor with the Singapore Psychological Society, and a full member of the Australian Psychological Society.
Jeanette has over a decade of experience in specialist mental health settings. In her previous role as a Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), she spearheaded clinical services for youths and adults experiencing complex trauma and post-traumatic stress, as well as psychosis and unusual experiences (such as hearing voices and paranoia). She draws on extensive inpatient, outpatient, forensic and leadership experience to support individuals with personality-related difficulties (including longstanding relational and self-esteem patterns), mood and anxiety difficulties, work- and health-related stress, and concerns that have not improved despite previous help. Notably, she was a pioneer member of an intensive, concentrated group therapy treatment programme for obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD).
Jeanette has a particular interest in supporting individuals who experience a sense of emptiness, intense emotions, or recurring painful patterns across different seasons of life. She is especially attuned to the needs of those in the helping professions, who may carry significant emotional responsibility while caring for others. Her therapy is holistic and integrative in nature, drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
In therapy, Jeanette adopts a calm, non-judgmental and collaborative approach that is trauma- and dissociation-informed.
She works at a pace that feels right for each client, prioritising emotional safety and secure therapeutic relationships, while gently helping clients make sense of their experiences and move towards meaningful and sustainable change. Clients often appreciate her ability to hold complexity with steadiness, compassion and respect.
Jeanette served as an Adjunct Lecturer at NUS (2023–2025) and provides supervision and mentorship to psychology students and clinicians. She has contributed to a range of hospital and community training initiatives, and has received institutional recognition for her teaching and supervision, reflecting her commitment to thoughtful and high-quality clinical practice.
As a scientist-practitioner, Jeanette integrates research into evidence-based care. She served as Principal Investigator for a competitively funded IMH research grant and led Singapore’s pioneering CBT for Psychosis service for Advanced Practice Nurses. Her work is published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, with a focus on translating research into real-world gains. She also contributes to media articles aimed at supporting psychological understanding and mental health literacy in Singapore.
Outside of work, Jeanette enjoys exploring food, travel and different cultures. Having lived in Hong Kong and Australia as well as Singapore, she is attuned to cross-cultural, migration and expatriate experiences, and values working with both local and international clients.
Jeanette provides therapy in English and Mandarin, and also speaks basic Hokkien.
